Wooden Pepper Mill Manufacturer for Canadian Brands

A-LIFE develops and manufactures wooden pepper mills and salt and pepper sets in China for Canadian brands and distributors. Compare the complete contents of each format

All grinders

The A17005 base, A16189 wood species and A15005 single format are different purchasing choices. Do not merge them into one generic “wood grinder set” specification.

Beech Wood Salt & Pepper Set with Base
Catalogue configuration
A17005: two manual mills plus a base; beech, SUS304 components and PP, ceramic mechanisms. Each mill: Ø54 × 123 mm.
Reason to shortlist
A set whose base is part of the product presentation and must appear in the contents list.
Resolve with a sample or drawing
Ask for the full footprint and a pack drawing showing separation between all pieces. The catalogue mill size is not the complete set size.
Two-Piece Wood Salt & Pepper Grinder Set
Catalogue configuration
A16189: two manual mills in toon wood, with ABS and PP components and ceramic mechanisms.
Reason to shortlist
A paired alternative for a brief that does not include A17005’s matching base.
Resolve with a sample or drawing
Request both mills together, their dimensions and the proposed insert. Confirm the toon wood appearance rather than approving it from a beech sample.
Natural Beech Wood Pepper Mill
Catalogue configuration
A15005: one manual beech mill with PP components and a ceramic mechanism. Ø58 × 180 mm.
Reason to shortlist
A single-unit alternative when a pair or base adds contents the project does not require.
Resolve with a sample or drawing
Review the single-mill box at full size. A smaller contents list does not automatically leave enough space for the proposed text and graphics.

Dimensions and materials are catalogue references. Final product, packing and order specifications are agreed separately.

For Canadian sales

Make room for the product and both languages

For prepackaged non-food consumer products covered by Canada's federal rules, product identity generally needs English and French. Plan that space when the box is designed, alongside the required dealer information. Requirements and exemptions depend on the product and presentation; Quebec has additional language rules. A full-size carton proof makes this review more useful than a logo-only artwork approval.

Define the complete set

A17005 includes a base in its catalogue format; A16189 is a two-piece wood set. Confirm which parts are included in the sellable unit, then make the pack image and proposed insert match that exact combination.

Lay out the carton at actual size

Place the English and French product names on a printed carton proof before adjusting decorative copy. Review the text beside the product photograph, barcode and dealer details, using the final box dimensions and proposed print colours.

Approve the wood finish as a pair

Review both mills together under consistent lighting, including the base where selected. Agree how natural variation will be assessed using physical samples. Check that the proposed insert separates the pieces and protects their finished surfaces.

Market references

Sources inform the label and buying checks; they are not product certification or an artwork approval.

Pack and sample decisions

Resolve the pack before approving the print file

Review a folded proof, the finished wood pieces and the actual opening and adjustment actions as separate parts of the decision.

Product information or extra decorative copy

Choice
Reserve the information panels first, then place brand story, imagery and decorative elements.
Consequence
For covered prepackaged non-food products, federal guidance generally requires English and French product identity. Optional copy is treated differently, and Quebec needs its own review.
Evidence to keep
A full-size folded proof with product identity, quantity, dealer information and any applicable warnings checked by the responsible Canadian business.

A matched pair or acceptable natural variation

Choice
Define whether both mills and any base must sit within an agreed appearance range rather than relying on a shared finish name.
Consequence
One attractive mill does not show the combined presentation. Wood species, grain, finish and surface defects need separate assessment.
Evidence to keep
An identified pair or full set plus accepted appearance-limit samples under agreed lighting; keep photographs linked to the physical references.

Identical appearance or distinct operating instructions

Choice
Decide how customers will distinguish the salt and pepper mills, then demonstrate filling and adjustment on each.
Consequence
A common exterior does not establish ingredient compatibility. Ceramic alone does not approve wet salt, every crystal size or every pepper type.
Evidence to keep
Confirmed use limits and mechanism identity, visible salt/pepper identification and instructions illustrated from the selected assembled sample.

Worked example

Layout example: a panel with two language blocks

For an illustration only, assume the designer has reserved a 90 mm-high side panel: 12 mm for product identity, 24 mm for English instructions, 24 mm for French instructions and 18 mm for dealer and reference details.

12 + 24 + 24 + 18 = 78 mm. A 90 mm panel leaves 12 mm for the planned gaps and other reserved space.

If each instruction block grows by 8 mm, the layout needs 94 mm and no longer fits the 90 mm allocation. Revise the layout before approving the box, rather than shrinking all text to force it in.

Every dimension is hypothetical. This is a space-planning calculation, not a legal text-size rule or approved carton. Product identity may itself require bilingual treatment; final layout and requirements need review.

From your brief to the sample

Develop the Product and Its Retail Pack Together

Packaging brief

Adapt a catalogue mill for your brand

Start with A17005 and its base, the A16189 pair or the single A15005 mill. We review the finish, logo and packing arrangement for your selected format. Include the English and French product presentation in the artwork brief so the box can be developed around the complete selling unit.

Create an original mill or coordinated set

Share your proposed shape, materials and set contents through a sketch, drawing or reference product. A-LIFE develops the body and mechanism arrangement with your team. Samples help define the relationship between both mills, any holder and the protective packaging before the final product and print specifications are agreed.

A-LIFE GRINDER

A-LIFE Development and Manufacturing in China

A-LIFE combines its operations with specialist manufacturing partners according to the product and material. For Canadian ranges, engineering, wooden components and final assembly are coordinated with the chosen set format and packaging presentation.

A-LIFE · Product engineering and samples

Product engineering and samples

Drawings and sample development connect the mill body with its mechanism and refill construction. A paired range also needs the mills and any holder considered together.

A-LIFE · Wood machining and finishing

Wood machining and finishing

The wood profile and surface treatment are developed around the agreed appearance. Reviewing the complete pair makes the finish relationship between its components easier to assess.

A-LIFE · Mill and set assembly

Mill and set assembly

Bodies, mechanisms and other components form the selected mill or pair. The assembled product provides the basis for reviewing the insert, complete box and selling-unit contents.

Complete these six items before asking for a paired sample and carton proof.

Download the checklist (.txt)
  1. Contents: model, two mills or one, base included or excluded, and quantity by selling unit.
  2. Materials and appearance: chosen wood, finish reference and the acceptable combined appearance of the pair or full set.
  3. Use: intended pepper and salt, ingredient limits to confirm, and identification on each mill.
  4. Destination: provinces and sales channels, including whether Quebec is in scope for the language review.
  5. Artwork: English and French product identity, proposed other text, quantity and dealer-information fields for review.
  6. Pack approval: full-size folded proof, insert drawing, final outer measurements and named approver for each revision.

Prepare the set and its packaging together

Before you order.

Does every line on a Canadian retail box need two languages?

Federal guidance treats mandatory product identity differently from optional promotional text. Additional provincial requirements may apply, especially in Quebec. Confirm the complete artwork for the intended provinces with the importer before releasing the print file.

Can we develop a set and a single mill together?

Use separate product and pack references for each sellable item. Send the desired finish relationship, included components and expected quantities for both formats; sampling and quotation can then address each configuration without confusing the set contents.

How are samples, order quantities and lead times agreed?

These depend on the selected mill, customisation and quantity. Send a product reference, artwork requirements, destination and planned volume so the quotation can define the sample and production scope.
