Compare the unit you will sell and replace

All grinders

Compare a single-mill reference, a pair and a pair with base. Ask which configuration can be reordered separately before building a replenishment offer around it.

Classic Beech Wood Pepper Mill
Catalogue configuration
A15003: one manual mill; beech wood and PP, ceramic mechanism. Ø58 × 199 mm.
Reason to shortlist
A starting point for an individually identified mill, including a hospitality brief where quantities are counted one mill at a time.
Resolve with a sample or drawing
Check the assembled refill movement and adjustment in hand. Specify the intended seasoning and ask which individual configuration can be reordered.
Beech Wood Salt & Pepper Set with Base
Catalogue configuration
A17005: two manual mills and a base; beech, SUS304 components and PP, ceramic mechanisms. Each mill: Ø54 × 123 mm.
Reason to shortlist
A coordinated retail or table presentation when the base is part of the selling unit.
Resolve with a sample or drawing
Request the complete base footprint and a packed sample. The mill dimensions do not define the space required by the set.
Two-Piece Wood Salt & Pepper Grinder Set
Catalogue configuration
A16189: two manual mills; toon wood, ABS and PP, ceramic mechanisms.
Reason to shortlist
A paired format to compare with A17005 when your brief does not require its matching base.
Resolve with a sample or drawing
Obtain dimensions and the exact contents list. Do not substitute a beech finish reference for an approved sample of the toon wood pair.

Dimensions and materials are catalogue references. Final product, packing and order specifications are agreed separately.

For UK sales routes

Identify Great Britain and Northern Ireland destinations

UK government guidance separates general product safety rules for Great Britain from the EU GPSR applying in Northern Ireland. Tell your project team whether sales cover England, Scotland and Wales, Northern Ireland, or both. Review the final product information and responsible-party details for those routes; do not assume one approved pack automatically resolves every requirement across all destinations.

Choose the presentation for the channel

For a retail set, compare the two-piece A16189 with A17005 and its base. For a hospitality brief, compare a single A15003 against the pair. Review how each option is identified, unpacked, refilled and kept together in use.

Check the complete sample

Assess turning feel, adjustment, cap fit and the selected seasoning on the assembled sample. With a paired format, check both mills and any holder together. Record the accepted finish and configuration so subsequent discussions refer to the same product.

Approve artwork for the sales route

List Great Britain and Northern Ireland separately in your destination brief. Ask the responsible importing or selling business to review the applicable information fields and instructions, then approve the printed sample for the markets where it will actually be sold.

Market references

Sources inform the buying checks; they are not certificates for these products.

Customisation decisions

Approve the use pattern as well as the presentation

The following choices produce three different records: a handling reference, a reorder map and destination artwork.

A16189 catalogue detail. The mechanism for your selected model is confirmed in its specification.

A common operation for both mills

Choice
Demonstrate opening, filling, closing and adjustment on both completed samples using the intended ingredients.
Consequence
A matching exterior does not establish identical approved uses. Ceramic alone does not confirm salt type, particle size or moisture suitability.
Evidence to keep
Mechanism reference, approved ingredient description and a short sequence of photos showing the actual refill and adjustment steps.

Whole-set or individual replenishment

Choice
Ask whether the quotation can cover a replacement mill, a complete pair and any base as separately identified items.
Consequence
A set price does not establish the availability or commercial terms of individual replacements. Avoid promising a service offer from the catalogue photograph.
Evidence to keep
A written reorder map with the included parts and quoted conditions for each available reference.

One artwork file or route-specific versions

Choice
List Great Britain and Northern Ireland separately; have the responsible business assess the information required for each route.
Consequence
Their general product safety regimes differ. A shared carton is an option to assess, rather than proof that the same information meets both routes.
Evidence to keep
A destination-to-artwork matrix with approved file versions and the party responsible for checking the product and business information.

Worked example

Planning example: replenishment and retail stock

Assume a project needs 80 single mills for replacement stock and 40 retail pairs. For this example only, singles are packed 10 per outer carton and pairs 5 per carton.

80 + (40 × 2) = 160 mills. The order contains 120 selling units. Outer cartons: 80 ÷ 10 + 40 ÷ 5 = 16.

Use separate order lines for the 80 singles and 40 pairs. A line reading “160 units” would not tell the packing team which units should become retail pairs.

These quantities and packing ratios are illustrative, not A-LIFE minimums or confirmed carton capacities. Base quantities, if required, must be listed separately.

From your brief to the sample

Private-label Mills and Original Product Development

Product brief

Put your brand on an existing format

Start with the classic A15003, the A16189 pair or A17005 with its matching base. Develop the finish, logo position and pack around the selected model. We review the complete presentation with your team, including how a retail set or hospitality assortment will be identified and ordered.

Develop a mill around your own design

Share a drawing, reference product or concept for the shape and handling you want. A-LIFE reviews materials, mechanism fit and assembly with your team. Use samples to refine the body and operating details, then define the set components, packaging and production configuration in the project specification.

A-LIFE Product Development and Manufacturing

Production is based in China and combines A-LIFE operations with specialist manufacturing partners according to the material and product. For a UK project, the agreed design connects engineering, wood components and the assembled mill.

A-LIFE · Engineering the complete product

Engineering the complete product

Drawings connect the body profile with the mechanism, shaft and refill opening. Sample development gives your team a physical basis for reviewing the proposed construction.

A-LIFE · Machining and finishing wood

Machining and finishing wood

Wood components are developed around the selected profile and surface treatment. Review the physical finish sample together with the mill's shape and branding position.

A-LIFE · Assembling the mill and set

Assembling the mill and set

The body, mechanism and other components come together in the chosen configuration. Review the assembled mill, any matching holder and its proposed packaging as one product.

Product brief

Use these six items to describe the project before requesting samples or a quotation.

Download the checklist (.txt)
  1. Sales route: Great Britain, Northern Ireland or both; retail, hospitality or another defined channel.
  2. Selling unit: model and exact contents, with quantities for single mills, pairs and any bases shown separately.
  3. Use: intended pepper and salt, refill operation and adjustment requirements; request confirmed ingredient suitability.
  4. Finish and identity: wood sample reference, logo size, placement and the label for each mill in a pair.
  5. Reorders: which complete units or components you want to replenish; ask for availability and terms rather than assuming them.
  6. Packing and information: carton requirements, destination artwork versions and the person who approves them.

Before approving your UK range

Before you order.

Can we discuss one range for both Great Britain and Northern Ireland?

Yes. Start with the same proposed models, but identify both destinations before approving labels and accompanying information. The responsible business should confirm how the applicable requirements will be met for each route and final configuration.

What should we send for a branded pepper mill quotation?

Send the model or set format, quantity by finish, logo artwork, packaging concept and delivery destination. Include any retailer specification or sample-review criteria. Pricing, minimum order quantities and timing can then be assessed against that defined scope.

How are samples, order quantities and lead times agreed?

These depend on the selected mill, customisation and quantity. Send a product reference, artwork requirements, destination and planned volume so the quotation can define the sample and production scope.
